Dr Maggie McCormick’s research focus is on urbanisation, urban consciousness and contemporary cultural concepts. She is an artist, independent curator, lecturer, Art in Public Space at the School of Art, RMIT University and tutor at the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning, The University of Melbourne. Her research has been presented and published in Australia, Asia and Europe. Her doctoral thesis (University of Melbourne 2009) titled ‘The Transient City: mapping urban consciousness through contemporary art practice' examines the impact of art practice on understandings of the changing nature of urban consciousness and conceptualisation of belonging in an urban, but also Asian, century. Her research included a Red Gate Gallery residency and an exhibition in the 798 Art District, Beijing. Prior to this her artwork has been included in exhibitions in Hangzhou and Shanghai as well as in Vienna, Berlin and Melbourne. She is currently working on Skypetrait, Australia/Germany.
